Vigabatrin is an inhibitor of GABA transaminase. It’s used to treat hard-to-control epilepsy and infantile spasms. It works by stopping an enzyme that breaks down GABA.
This makes more of the neurotransmitter in your brain. You can get it as 500 mg pills or as a powder in little packets for taking by mouth. You usually take 1 to 3 grams every day, split up into a few doses throughout the day.
It comes in bottles with 100 tablets in each. You might get sleepy, feel tired, or have vision problems as side effects. You need to stick to the dose your doc tells you and not take more than the max without checking with a healthcare provider, because it can be toxic.
Take Vigabatrin with food to avoid tummy trouble. It’s a generic, so it’s got the same ingredients as the name-brand stuff and you can swap them out. Just do what your healthcare provider says and let them know right away if you feel weird or your health changes.
