Eltrombopag is a type of medication that helps with low platelet counts in people with ITP or hepatitis C. You can get it in 25 mg, 50 mg, or 75 mg tablets. Doctors usually suggest taking 50 mg once a day on an empty stomach.
Take these tablets with water, but never with fruit juice. Don’t chew, break, or crush the tablets. The medicine helps make more platelets by bone marrow cells called megakaryocytes.
These bottles come with 30 tablets each. You’ll need to be checked to see how your platelet count is doing, if there are any bad side effects, and if your dose needs to be changed. Kids and teens under 18 shouldn’t take it unless there’s a really good reason and after thinking about the good and bad stuff it might cause.
Always follow your healthcare provider’s advice when you’re taking eltrombopag.
