Trametinib is an anti-cancer drug. It’s mostly known for blocking something called MEK, which is short for Mekinase or Mitogen-Activating Extracellular Signaling Kinase. Trametinib is mainly used to treat melanoma, a type of cancer, especially in patients who have changes, known as mutations, in the BRAF V600E/K gene.
It’s also used for NSCLC, which is a type of lung cancer. It works by stopping a process called the MEK signaling pathway, which is important for controlling how cancer cells grow and live. You can get it in two strengths: 0.5 mg and 2 mg.
They’re both in tablet form, covered with a special coating, and you take them by mouth. The advice is to take just one 2-mg tablet every day, and make sure it’s on an empty stomach. Each bottle has 30 tablets, which is perfect for a month’s worth of daily doses.
