Afatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor designed to inhibit the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) pathways, It’s often used in NSCLC patients who have certain EGFR gene mutations. The most common ones are exon 19 deletions and the L858R mutation in exon 21. It comes in 20, 30, and 40 mg pill strengths.
In India, doctors usually suggest taking 40 mg of Afatinib once a day, best on an empty stomach. The medication comes in bottles of 30 tablets.
