Ponatinib is a kind of medicine that’s used to treat a couple of types of blood cancers. These cancers might not have been able to be helped by other kinase inhibitors before. It works on several kinase proteins, BCR-ABL among them.
They have it in two doses: 15 mg and 45 mg, both are film-coated pills. You usually take the 45 mg dose once a day. It can be with or without food, though.
It comes in bottles, each with 30 tablets in them. Some of the side effects might be blood clots, heart problems, liver damage, bleeding, weakened bone marrow, lung issues, and an abnormal heart rhythm called QT prolongation. It’s super important to keep an eye on your health while you’re on this treatment.
