Gilteritinib is an FLT3 inhibitor, and it’s used to treat AML that comes back or doesn’t get better after treatment, especially when the leukemia has FLT3 mutations. It works by stopping FLT3 kinase, which in turn slows down the growth of leukemia cells. The tablets are 40 mg each, and the usual dose for adults is 120 mg, taken just once a day.
You can find these tablets in bottles with 90 pills. The active stuff in it goes after certain FLT3 mutations, kind of like a bullseye. Its job is to mess with the pathways that cancer cells use to keep growing and surviving.
Clinical trials have shown that gilteritinib works well for AML with FLT3 mutations. It helps cut down on those blast cells in the bone marrow and gives patients better chances. You’re supposed to take it in the morning, after you’ve had your breakfast and had a drink of water.
And remember, take the pill just like that, no chewing or breaking it up. You got to keep the bottle sealed tight and store the tablets in a place that’s room temperature, like up to 25 degrees Celsius.
