Avatrombopag is a treatment for low platelet counts, mainly used for chronic liver disease and ITP. It’s a type of drug that boosts platelet production by targeting the TPO receptor. The tablets come in 20 mg doses and are coated with a film.
The usual dose is one 20 mg tablet a day, and it’s best to take it with a meal. The medication comes in bottles with 30 tablets each. It’s really good at helping megakaryocytes multiply and make more platelets.
It’s used to boost platelet numbers in people with ITP and chronic liver disease, which can help cut down on bleeding. You’d usually use it if other stuff hasn’t worked or if you need to quickly get those platelet numbers up. It works by waking up the thrombopoietin receptor on the megakaryocytes, which then makes more of those cells and, in turn, more platelets.
