Momelotinib is a type of medicine that targets the JAK1/2 inhibitors to help treat anemia and myelofibrosis. And it’s meant to shrink the spleen and bring down swelling. The medicine comes in two strengths—100 mg and 200 mg—both in those film-coated pill things.
The usual go-to amount is 200 mg and you’re supposed to take it just once a day. Each pill is meant to be taken as a whole. You’re not supposed to chew it, crush it, or break it open.
Each bottle has 30 pills, just right for a whole month’s worth of the daily dose. How it works is by blocking these Janus kinase (JAK) proteins, which are like the key players in the myelofibrosis cells’ growth spurt. It’s been shown to help with anemia and has lessened the need for blood transfusions in those fancy clinical trials they do.
