Larotrectinib is an oral med that’s made just for solid tumors with something called NTRK gene fusions. It’s a feature in some cancers. It works by sticking to these proteins—TRKA, TRKB, and TRKC—and keeping them from doing their thing, which helps shrink the tumors.
It’s okay to use this for both adults and kids who have those tough-to-treat or spread-out cancers and turn out positive for NTRK gene fusions. You can get it as 25 or 100 mg capsules, or as a liquid that’s 20 mg per milliliter. For adults, the suggested dose is 100 mg two times a day.
For kids, it’s based on how much of their body the drugs need to cover. You’ll find it in bottles with 60 capsules each.
