Ponatinib is a type of drug that targets a specific kinase, used to treat CML and Ph ALL. It’s meant for people who’ve had a tough time with other kinase inhibitors before. It goes after several kinases connected to these diseases, like BCR-ABL1, T315I BCR-ABL1, and others.
You can get it in two strengths—15 mg and 45 mg tablets with a coating. The usual dose is 45 mg taken once a day, and it doesn’t matter if you eat before or after you take it. The tablets come in bottles with 30 in each.
Because of how it works and the possible side effects, it needs to be watched closely and doses might need to be changed, all under a doctor’s care.
