Venetoclax is used to treat two types of cancer – CLL and AML. It works by stopping a protein called BCL-2, which lets cancer cells keep growing. It comes in three doses – 10, 50, and 100 milligrams, all in a film-coated tablet form.
If you’re treating CLL, you’ll end up taking 400 mg a day, preferably with a meal. How often you take each tablet depends on how much you weigh and how well it’s working for you. It’s made with some extra stuff to help it work right, like things that help the tablet break down in your stomach and others to make sure each tablet is the same size.
Don’t break or chew these tablets; just swallow them whole. You’ll get regular blood checks while taking this. The medicine comes in bottles with 120 tablets each.
Some people might feel a bit weak, get an upset stomach, or have low blood counts. There are some health issues where this drug shouldn’t be used. It’s been okayed for use in some places, but it’s still being looked at for full approval, with more info on safety and how well it works coming soon.
