Tivozanib is this thing that stops VEGFR (a fancy name for a protein involved in cancer growth) and it’s used to treat a really bad type of kidney cancer called RCC. It goes after the process that makes blood vessels for tumors, trying to cut off their blood supply and stop them from growing. You can get it in two doses—890 or 1.34 milligrams.
You take the 1.34 mg pill every day for three weeks, then take a week off, and repeat that cycle. You can take the pills with or without food. Each bottle holds 21 of them.
The stuff that works in the pill blocks VEGFR1, 2, and 3, these really important parts that help tumors grow and make blood vessels. This treatment is meant to keep the cancer from getting worse and to make patients feel better. It’s been shown to cause fewer bad side effects than some other kinds of cancer drugs that work on VEGFR, although some patients might still get stuff like high blood pressure, the runs, or feel tired.
