Valganciclovir is a type of antiviral mostly used to treat and stop the spread of CMV retinitis. This condition affects folks with weakened immune systems, like those who’ve had organ transplants. It’s considered an antiviral, which means it keeps the virus from copying its DNA.
The main ingredient comes in tablets coated with a film. Each tablet is strong enough with 450 mg. Doctors usually recommend 900 mg for grown-ups, either once or twice a day.
And you have to take it with a meal. The tablets come in bottles with 60 of them inside. You’ve got to be careful with this if you’re allergic to valganciclovir, acyclovir, ganciclovir, or other drugs like them.
We haven’t figured out if this med is safe and works for kids younger than 2 years. Possible side effects can mess with your stomach, affect your blood, or hurt your kidneys.
