Venetoclax is this BCL-2 inhibitor that’s made to treat two kinds of cancer: CLL and AML. It makes cancer cells die by a process called apoptosis. It comes in 10 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg film-coated tablets, and the recommended starting dose for CLL patients is a dose ramp, increasing to a total of 400 mg taken once daily.
You need to take the tablets with food. You get it in bottles that hold 120 pills. It’s real good at targeting this BCL-2 protein and stopping it from doing its thing to keep cancer cells alive.
In CLL and some AML cases, it messes up the signals that cancer cells use to grow and live, causing them to die. Because it works so well, doctors use it to treat the more serious stages of these cancers.
